INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL ADVERTISEMENT FOR ACADEMIC AND NON-ACADEMIC STAFF POSITIONS

PART I

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following academic and non-teaching positions in the University of Benin, Benin City. This advertisement is open to both internal and external candidates and will run for six (6) weeks from the date of this publication.

Any applicant for academic staff position with qualifications less than a Ph.D. must possess a minimum of Second Class Upper Division in their first degree qualification plus NYSC Discharge/Exemption Certificate.

Referees must send their reports (not later than one week after the close of applications) directly to the Registrar under confidential seal. The Subject Heading must bear the Name of the Applicant and the Post Applied For. At least one Referee must be from the applicant’s most recent or current place of employment.


PART II

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ACADEMIC POSITIONS

  • Professor/Associate Professor: Ph.D. (in relevant field) with substantial teaching experience, research, and publications.
  • Senior Lecturer: Ph.D. plus five (5) years of teaching experience with a minimum of 8 peer-reviewed publications.
  • Lecturer I & II: Ph.D. or Master’s degree plus three (3) years of teaching experience with a minimum of 3 peer-reviewed publications.
  • Assistant Lecturer: Master’s degree plus Ph.D. in progress. Must show evidence of teaching and research potential or experience.
  • Graduate Assistant: First degree not below Second Class Upper Division. First Class degree holders are encouraged to apply.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR NON-ACADEMIC POSITIONS

Senior Non-Academic Positions

  • Administrative Assistant (CONTISS 07): Good honours degree (not below Second Class Lower) from a recognized university. Must be computer literate.
  • Confidential Secretary II (CONTISS 06):
    • 5 credits (including English Language) in not more than 2 sittings (WASC/NECO/NABTEB)
    • 50/100 wpm in typewriting and shorthand
    • NCE/ND in Secretarial Studies/Office Technology Management with at least 2 years of relevant experience
    • Proficiency in computer applications required
  • Confidential Secretary I (CONTISS 07):
    • 5 credits (including English Language) in not more than 2 sittings
    • 50/120 wpm in typewriting and shorthand
    • HND in Secretarial Studies/Office Technology Management with at least 3 years of relevant experience or NCE with at least 5 years
    • Proficiency in computer applications required
  • Pharmacist (CONHESS 09):
    • B.Pharm or Pharm.D, registerable with PCN
    • One year post-registration experience
  • Medical Officer (CONMESS 02):
    • MBBS, BDS or equivalent, registered with MDCN
    • Current Practicing License
  • Nursing Officer I (CONHESS 08):
    • BNSC or RN/RM with additional OND in specialized nursing
    • Current Practicing License
    • 3 years post-registration experience
  • Medical Laboratory Technologist (CONHESS/CONTISS 09):
    • BMLS
    • Registered with MLSCN
    • Current Practicing License

Junior Staff Positions

  • Senior Driver (CONTISS 03):
    • 5 credits including English and Mathematics
    • Valid Class E Driver’s License
    • 4 years of experience
  • Clerical Officer (CONTISS 03):
    • 5 credits including English Language in not more than 2 sittings
  • Computer Operator III (CONTISS 04):
    • 5 credits including English and Mathematics
    • Certificate in Computer Operation
    • Proficiency in computer applications
  • Office Assistant II (CONTISS 04):
    • At least 3 credits in WAEC/NECO/SSCE/NABTEB
  • Laboratory Assistant (CONTISS 03):
    • National Certificate in Laboratory Assistance
    • 4 years of relevant experience
